THE PEACE AND LOVE ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP (PALAS) OFFERS 50 SCHOLARSHIPS TO CARIBBEAN STUDENTS!

ATLANTA, GA – – Peace and Love Academic Scholarship, Inc. (PALAS) has launched it’s scholarship application process to identify qualified candidates, as it seeks to award fifty (50) scholarships for the academic year 2012-2013 to worthy, but economically challenged, high school and University/College students in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean region.

PALAS, the Atlanta-headquartered charity organization, has received the support of various corporate bodies and individuals as it attempts to raise US$20,000.00, which is earmarked to underwrite the 50 scholarships.  The stated mission of the group is to recognize and honor outstanding academic performances of under privileged students.

The brainchild of Founder/Executive Director Rula Brown, The Peace and Love Academic Scholarship (PALAS) program was established in December 2010, to honor the memory of young Vanessa Campbell, an aspiring Jamaican artist who was a casualty of the burgeoning crime and violence problem in Portmore, Jamaica. After Vanessa’s untimely death, an initial scholarship program was created as the SSSJamz/Vanessa Campbell Academic Scholarship to assist high school students from her alma mater, Bridgeport High School. To sustain this effort PALAS has been soliciting funds from all quarters.

In late March 2012, Executive Director Brown returned to the United States after a whirl wind media tour of Jamaica, where he visited various media houses, highlighted by his appearance on the Smile Jamaica Television Jamaica (TVJ) morning program, to spread the word about PALAS and alert prospective candidates about the scholarships.

It is the most recent thrust in the group’s fund raising effort, after earlier partnering with playwright Debra Ehrhardt in a benefit staging of Jamaica Farewell, her critically acclaimed one woman play. It is part of PALAS’ tireless fundraising effort, which has seen the group in a frenzied media campaign to raise funds and to bring attention to the Scholarship Program. In addition, PALAS has partnered with Caribbean Radio Show, headed by Dr. Evelyn Richardson, in Virginia to donate JA$50,000.00 to De La Vega City Basic School in St. Catherine, Jamaica.

The PALAS scholarship application process was opened February 15, 2012 and will close May 1, 2012 and can be completed online. Those without access to a computer are encouraged to mail the completed application to:
