Minott died in July, 2010 at age 54.

In an interview with the Jamaica Observer, Minott’s daughter Pashon (Tamar Minott) said that while artists were quick to jump on board, the response has been the opposite in terms of sponsorship.

“We have been seeking assistance from media houses to get a few advertisements and other entities in corporate Jamaica but things have not turned in our favour,” she said. “He always had an event on his birthday so our aim is to really continue the tradition.”

Among the artists scheduled to perform are Bounty Killer, Sizzla, Beenie Man, Junior Reid, Ken Boothe and John Holt.

Proceeds from the concert will be donated to the Youthman Promotions Music Centre and also assist the poor in the Robert Crescent area.

Minott launched Youthman Promotions in the late 1970s to expose inner-city talent. Reid, Tristan Palmer, Little John, Tenor Saw, Yami Bolo and Garnet Silk are some of the acts who passed through Minott’s camp.

Minott’s outstanding career started in the early 1970s as a member of the African Brothers. Later that decade, he broke through as a solo act at Studio One where his hits included Vanity and Mr DC.

He was one of the most successful dancehall acts of the 1980s, scoring with a series of hits like Good Thing Going, No Vacancy and Buy Out the Bar.

Some of Minott’s children have followed in their father’s footsteps. Pashon is known for songs such as Hush Babymother, Mek it Inna Life and No Time to Waste. The Minott siblings are putting final touches to their latest ‘riddim’, Fast Cash.
