MACKIE CONSCIOUS DOES HIS OWN JAMAICA 50 SONG!

AS controversy surrounding the Jamaica 50 song escalates, singer/songwriter Mackie Conscious is offering his own composition as the official song for the country’s Golden Jubilee.

“I would be more than happy to make it the official song for free if I was asked,” he told the Jamaica Observer. “I really don’t want to get into the controversy as I have no political affiliation and believe at this time we are all one people.” Jamaica 50 is the name of Conscious’ song. He says its goal is “to big up Jamaica land I love”.

It is being distributed locally by Tad’s International Records. Mackie Conscious (real name Dennis McKay) is best known for the provocative song, What If.

The brouhaha over the official song for Jamaica 50 celebrations is a hot topic.

Last year, the Jamaica Labour Party government approached songwriter Mikey Bennett to compose the theme song for the country’s 50th anniversary as an independent nation.

Bennett’s song, Find The Flag, was recently replaced by On a Mission, produced by Grammy-winning deejay Shaggy.

Shaggy’s song was commissioned by the People’s National Party, which won the December 29 general election and formed the new government in January.
