DAMIAN “JR. GONG” MARLEY HELPING REGGAE TO SEE NEW HORIZONS!

Triple Grammy award-winning artist Damian Marley, in addition to hit tracks Affairs of the Heart and Set Up Shop, has collaborated with a mixture of artists to add a variety of sounds to his repertoire. Jr. Gong has recently partnered with Skrillex, Cypress Hill and Busy Signal.

In Mek It Bun Dem, Damian Marley lays his flavour down on a unique reggae-dubstep rhythm from internationally acclaimed producer Skrillex. The song’s flow-filled style is very appealing as it invokes a slow, spicy rock from its listeners. The track introduces dubstep to the Jamaican massive and proves to be a good ‘jam’ to take a listen to.

Remixing AlBorosie’s song, Kingston Town, Gongzilla and Busy Signal add a slightly faster rhythm and a mixture of their two styles to complete a very ‘conscious’ song. The remix is a social commentary, as expressed when Marley sings, “Dem a war ova turf like nothing else matters, pity them nuh know life has much more to offer.”

The song is relatively new and is a great addition to the reggae superstar’s collection of hot 2012 hits.

Having previously collaborated with Cypress Hill on the track, Ganja Bus, Damian Marley has voiced with the group on a new single Can’t Keep Me Down.

The unique single influences an air of confidence in living one’s everyday life.

The artist has been working closely with his family from Ghetto Youths International which boasts a collection of revolutionary artists like Julian and Stephen Marley, Jo Mersa, Black Am I and Christopher Ellis.

Since the start of this year, the label added reggae superstar Wayne Marshall to the collection of artists.

Damian Marley has had a busy schedule to match the recent barrage of hits, added to his repertoire. Jr Gong is scheduled to perform at two signature Jamaica50 events as his Reggae Sumfest performance will light up the stage on Saturday, July 21 followed by a performance at the O2 Arena in London slated for Thursday, July 26.

The artist delivered an explosive performance at the H2O Music Festival in Dallas, Texas, in the company of fellow international superstars Snoop Dogg and Yelawolf last month. He also performed at the FAM (Food, Art and Music) festival in Guyana in May.

The festival staged at the Guyana National Stadium saw Jr Gong deliver hits Affairs of the Heart, Beautiful, Road to Zion and It Was Written. In fine Jamaican style, Marley shared the stage with Wayne Marshall, who he invited onstage during his set.

Damian ‘Jr Gong’ Marley has been stirring up the reggae music airways since the release of his debut album, Mr Marley, in 1996. The artist is best known for his timeless hits It Was Written, Half Way Tree,Welcome to Jamrock, Road to Zion, The Mission, and others.
