REGGAE GOLD 2012 DEBUTS AT NO.1 ON BILLBOARD REGGAE CHART!

BY KEVIN JACKSON——–

VP Records’ Reggae Gold has debuted at the top of the Billboard Reggae Album chart. This is the 20th edition of the annual series.

Reggae Gold 2012 sold 1,800 copies in its first week. The 2011 edition of the compilation sold 2,500 copies in its opening week.

KONSHENS… Reggae Gold 2012 features two songs from Konshens, Gal a Bubble and Do Sumn

Chris Chin, CEO of VP Records, attributed the dip in sales to the current music industry slump. He pointed out that the 2012 edition is a two disc collection, and costs more than the 2011 single disc.

Reggae Gold has been a big seller for VP over the years, along with another compilation, Strictly The Best.

Both showcase the biggest dancehall songs of the period.

Reggae Gold 2012 features two songs from Konshens, Gal a Bubble and Do Sumn.

Popcaan’s recent Billboard charter Only Man She Want is also included so too Ya So Nice by newcomer Potential Kidd, Chris Martin’s Cheaters Prayer, Come Over (Missing You) by Busy Signal, Reggae (Etana) and Kingston Town (remix) by Busy Signal and Damian ‘Jr Gong’ Marley.

Disc two contains some of the biggest hits distributed by VP, to commemorate the series’ 20th anniversary. These include Can’t Satisfy Her by I Wayne, TOK’s Footprints, Hold Yuh (Gyptian), Temperature (Sean Paul), No Letting Go (Wayne Wonder), and So Special by Mavado.
