‘Jamaicans, we are number one/ world leaders and champions, prophets and musicians.’

The patriotic theme of Bunny Rugs’ Land We Love single will seemingly play its part in benefiting the country as the entertainer recently announced that its proceeds will go towards assisting the Jamaica Children’s Heart Fund/Chain of Hope.

The single was available, digi-tally, as of yesterday.

The two organisations which perform open heart surgery on children for free, are endorsed by Rugs and the Third World band of which he is a member.

According to Rugs, the fact that the groups helps children, and Jamaican children at that, with such critical heath care, is what caused him to become involved.

This Land We Love was not written to be sold as a single. It’s on the album and the album will be up for sale but all the proceeds from the single go directly to the Jamaica Children’s Heart Fund,” said Rugs.

Assisted by Dean Frazer’s saxophone, Bunny Rugs puts his own spin on independence in Land We Love.

Included on his Time album set for release on September 11 by VP Records, the song was recorded with Mikey Bennett at Grafton Studios, mixed by Stephen Stanley and mastered by Rohan Dwyer. Studio musicians include Kirk Bennett on drums, Aeion Hoilett on bass, Lamont Savory on guitar and Kevon Webster on keyboard.

The video for the single was directed by Ras Tingle and edited by Kritic of KAO arts.

Filmed “road-trip style” throughout Jamaica, Rugs said he had a lot of fun while on set.

“It was like you’re on a tour. I wish more people would have theopportunity to go around this beautiful country and experience what I did. It’s like going on a vacation in your own country,” he said.

Fifty years of Independence comes once in a lifetime and Bunny Rugs decided that he would make a personal contribution to the occasion.

One thing he asks, “All Jamaicans must just remember that Jamaicans, we are number one, world leaders and champions, prophets and musicians.”
