THE RATE OF DEPORTATION TO JAMAICA IS QUITE ALARMING!

By Nedburn Thaffe——

A report on deportation to Jamaica has presented alarming data on the number of persons sent back to the country over the last 10 years.

A review of Jamaica’s migration situation has highlighted that between 2000 and 2010, some 34,199 persons were deported to the island.

The figures are contained in the document ‘Jamaica’s Migration Profile’ which was recently completed and was presented to the government today.

The report points out that the number of persons who were deported to Jamaica over the 10-year period is three times that of the number of returning residents over the same period.

It also highlights that the majority of deportees to Jamaica came from the United States of America and the United Kingdom.

The data shows that some 26,305 of those who came were regarded as illegal aliens.

Jamaica is the first Caribbean country to develop a migration profile.
