David M joins Shaggy, Sean Paul in rhythmic music foray

Dancehall music is breaking new ground on the international scene with artists finding hit records on internationally flavoured beats called rhythmic beats.

Rhythmic beats have an uptempo dance music sound, made popular in dancehall by Sean Paul on singles such as She Doesn’t Mind and Got To Love You.

With the sound of dancehall infiltrating rhythmic beats, David M has teamed up with Beenie Man to create a collaboration called Here Comes Your Life.

The song features background vocals by Diana King, and according to David M, the single will go all the way to the Billboard Charts.

“Rhythmic dancehall is not something that is done by a lot of artists except Sean Paul and Diplo. I wanted to do something different, and that is why I decided to go this route, and right now the song is doing well in New York and Miami, plus it is also getting played on international stations,” he said.

The artist said he decided to get Beenie Man on the track because of the veteran’s ability to deliver authentic dancehall.

“I got Beenie Man on the song because I wanted that dancehall feel, and who better to get that done than the dancehall king himself,” David M said.

The song is currently the only dancehall song charting on the US rhythmic charts, while the accompanying music video has been receiving rotations on Vh1.

However, David M, who has been searching for the big international break for more than five years, said the relative success wasn’t planned.

“I recorded the song with an open mind. It was an experiment. We didn’t know what to expect. Being on the rhythmic charts is a big thing for me. Apart from Sean Paul and Shaggy, nobody else from the dancehall genre is on the major US charts right now,” David M said.

Here Comes Your Life also made its way on to the coveted Billboard singles chart and is currently at number 200.

The artist says he is aiming for the top 100 in a matter of weeks.

“We are looking to go on the Billboard 100 in the next three to four weeks, so it’s a good feeling. People in Hawaii and Canada are saying that they are hearing it, and I feel real good about the progress. It is a good look for Jamaican music. In the US, people listen to a lot of rhythmic music, so we have to pay attention to that in Jamaica,” David M said.

This is no news for Beenie Man, who has already achieved international success through collaborations with Janet Jackson, Mya, and Nicki Minaj. According to the veteran artiste, this collaboration with David M could end up being a hit in Europe, while his manager and brother Blue believes the song has the potential to crossover.

David M is also gearing up to release a 10-track album called Here Comes Your Life to be released in January.

Rhythmic music has been popularised by artistes Black Eyed Peas and David Guetta, among others.
