JAMAICA’S MUSIC INDUSTRY HOLDS SEMINAR IN KINGSTON THIS FRIDAY!

BY Cecelia Campbell-Livingston——-

WITH the sale of reggae albums plummeting, this year’s Tech Entrepreneurship Conference

is geared at educating players in the local music industry about the importance of digital marketing.

Mike Johns, CEO of Digital Mind State at Caribbean BETA, will be the guest speaker.

ConnectiMass, a Kingston-based company, are producers of the seminar which will be held Friday at the Knutsford Court Hotel in New Kingston.

ConnectiMass founder Ingrid Riley believes it is time Jamaican music insiders realise the benefits of digital marketing.

“We are now living in the digital age. Mobile and the Internet have totally changed the face of marketing and with it comes new opportunities,” Riley pointed out.

Keynote speaker at the seminar is Mike Johns, CEO of Digital Mind State at Caribbean BETA. The Los Angeles-based Johns also stressed the importance of artistes and producers moving with industry trends.

“Attention is the new money and reggae music industry players must now learn the new rules of this game and adapt a fresh philosophy,” he said.

Johns noted that musicians especially, should know how to maximise the distribution of their product.

Johns is a global expert in digital technology and mobile media. He has provided digital marketing and consulting services to some of hip hop and reggae’s biggest names, including Jay-Z, Snoop Lion, Ice Cube, the Beastie Boys, Elephant Man and Beenie Man.

He has also worked with major companies such as T-Mobile, Nokia, NBC and Microsoft.
