U.S. TRIP WAS “UPLIFTING” FOR THE UPLIFTING ROOTS BAND!

THE Uprising Roots Band recently returned from the United States where they performed on the west and east coasts.

Drummer/vocalist Rashawn ‘Kush’ McAnuff says the experience was uplifting.

The Uprising Roots Band is planning a US college tour for next year.

“It was really awesome. It shows that roots-reggae is really rising,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

The band performed in California, Arizona, Washington state, Texas, and New York.

“To see the kind of response we got to our kind of music was something else,” said McAnuff, who bemoaned the lack of attention his band gets at home.

He added that Uprising is planning a tour of US college campuses, tentatively scheduled to start in February.

“The dates have not yet been confirmed but it could be taking us well into June,” he said.

The Uprising Band was formed in 2006 by McAnuff and bass player Ruel Asburn. Its other members are dub poet/keyboardist Lloyd Palmer, percussionist Joseph Sutherland and Winston ‘Boo Pee’ Bowen, guitarist.

Their debut album, Skyfyah, was released last year.
