TORONTO-BASED reggae singer Steele goes spiritual on his new song, The Devil Caa Stop Wi. It is a new side to the artist who is known for lovers’ rock songs such as She Believes In Me, Let’s Stay Together and Decisions.

He says he did the song to encourage people going through challenging times.

“Personally, I have faced some situations where my trust was abused, and [I found] that people I thought would be batting for me are the very ones who turned on me,” said Steele.

Last Saturday, Steele supported persons facing life-threatening illnesses by appearing at a event in Toronto staged by the Canadian Cancer Society.

Born Mark Steele in Lucea, Hanover, Steele’s passion for music grew while he was a student at Herbert Morrison High School in Montego Bay.

Tristan Palmer produced one of his first batch of songs, a cover of Stevie Wonder’s Ribbon In The Sky. Shortly after, in 1989, he migrated to Canada.

There, he continued his career, recording songs such as Silhouette and Jah Is My Strength, as well as performing at major Caribbean shows.
