NEW DATE FOR DENNIS BROWN’S POSTPONED KINGSTON TRIBUTE – SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 17!

SUNDAY, February 17, is the new date set for the annual Dennis Brown tribute concert to be held on King Street in downtown Kingston.

The concert, originally set for last Sunday, was postponed at the last minute due to funding issues.

The concert, which is usually staged on or close to Brown’s February 1 birthday, has been used as the launching pad for the Reggae Month and Black History Month observations.

A few weeks ago, organisers announced that the event was being shifted from Orange Street, in the vicinity of the house where Brown grew up, to King Street, the main artery in the heart of the downtown business and shopping district.

Over the years, the concerts have attracted support from a wide cross section of the artiste community.

Dennis Brown began his musical career as a child and would go on to become the Crown Prince of Reggae, a title given to him by none other than the King of Reggae, Bob Marley. Brown died in 1999 after a brief illness, at age 42.
