FLORIDA’S BROWARD COUNTY SETTLES ACCIDENT LAWSUIT INVOLVING “BEEF PATTY EATING JAMAICAN BUS DRIVER!”

Broward County Commissioners in Florida have agreed to settle a lawsuit brought by a woman who was injured in an accident while travelling in a bus driven by a Jamaican who was caught on camera eating a Jamaican beef patty.

Surveillance video shows 60-year-old Herton Reid eating the patty while manoeuvring the 15-ton bus with one hand.

Ursila Wilson, who filed the lawsuit, was injured when the driver hit the brakes causing passengers standing in the crowded bus to lurch forward.

Miss Wilson lost her grip on the overhead bar and plunged, banging her head on the fare box, falling to the floor.

Video shows the Jamaican driver glanced down and kept eating.

The accident will cost taxpayers $100,000, as Broward County Commissioners voted last week to settle Miss Wilson’s lawsuit.

Her medical bills exceeded $220,000.

Her attorney said she had surgery to fuse disks in her upper spine.

Mr. Reid’s files showed he had a short history with Broward County Transit marked with complaints and accidents.

His first accident was two months after he was hired, when he was still on probation.

His case shows a forgiving Broward County transit department, repeatedly warning him that he could be disciplined or fired if things got worse, but meting out little discipline.

Mr. Reid left the job voluntarily in August.
