SEAN PAUL, JAY SEAN AND SHAGGY FOR THE JEAN PIERRE COMPLEX, PORT-OF-SPAIN!

Sean Paul

Tomorrow night all roads lead to the Jean Pierre Complex, Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain, as three international stars come together for the first major concert event of 2013 featuring Sean Paul/Jay Sean and Shaggy.

“Sean Paul/ Jay Sean and Shaggy” is being promoted by International Concert Events Ltd (ICE).

Sean Paul is back with a new look and a new sound. This is his first concert performance in almost five years in Trinidad and with two recent albums under his belt since his last visit he is coming to explode in style with his full band of musicians and dancers.

The Jamaican dancehall superstar first launched onto the scene in 2002 with his breakout hit, “Gimme The Light,” and the fire has been burning brightly ever since. Hot on the heels of his multi-platinum, Grammy-winning classic album, Dutty Rock, he dropped the 2005 RIAA platinum smash The Trinity. That album led off with the Top 10 single “We Be Burnin’,” followed by the number one hit “Temperature.” Now Sean Paul is stoking the flames once more with his newly released fifth album, Tomahawk Technique.

On this album, Sean Paul has added new dynamics to his music merging his signature sounds with techno and pop rhythms. The album exposes listeners to youthful and refreshing tracks, most of which are already topping charts all over Europe. For this album, he worked alongside Future Fambo, Ammo, Kelly Rowland and Alexis Jordan. “Got 2 Luv U” (ft Alexis Jordan) reached number one in Switzerland and Austria and top ten in other countries. “She Doesn’t Mind” also reached number one in Switzerland and Austria; top ten in other countries while “Hold On” reached number one in Belgium and number 35 in France.

Other singles released from this album include “How Deep is Your Love” with Destiny’s Child’s Kelly Rowland.

Sean Paul will be performing all his fan favourites including “Get Busy”, ‘Gimme The Light”, ‘Like Glue”, ‘We Be Burning”, “I’m Still in Love with You”, “Temperature”, “Give it up to me”, “Never Gonna Be The Same” “So Fine”, “Press it Up” “Pepperpot” and the new singles – “She Doesn’t Mind”, “Got 2 Luv You” and “How Deep is Your Love.”

Shaggy (Orville Richard Burrell) was born in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1968. He left at age 18 for the Flatbush neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, where his mother was already living.

Shaggy

Shaggy released several singles on small independent labels that did well in New York’s numerous reggae clubs. The most successful of them, “Oh Carolina,” was a remake of a pre-reggae classic of Jamaican pop, by a group called the Folkes Brothers.

That led to the release of Shaggy’s debut album, Pure Pleasure, in 1993. Shaggy kept his momentum with his sophomore release, Boombastic, released in 1995. The title track of Boombastic became another international hit and also cracked open the doors of the US market for the artiste, the album received a gold record for sales of 500,000 copies, appeared on pop, rap, and R&B charts in the United States, and remained atop Billboard magazine’s US sales chart for a record 30 weeks. Boombastic earned Shaggy a 1996 Grammy award for Best Reggae Album.

He kept on composing new material and making new contacts, and before long he landed a spot on the soundtrack of the film How Stella Got Her Groove Back, with a soundtrack helmed by the durably successful urban pop producers, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Quickly writing a song (“Luv Me Luv Me”) to their specifications, Shaggy ended up recording the tune with Janet Jackson on chorus vocals.

That song reached upper chart levels, and as a result the MCA label, which had released the soundtrack, signed Shaggy to a new contract and released his album Hot Shot in 2000. On that album Shaggy discarded all pretensions to reggae authenticity.

The album’s most successful composition was “It Wasn’t Me,” which dominated the charts for several weeks both on the Billboard and International Charts. With “It Wasn’t Me,” Shaggy became the first reggae artiste to top the US pop singles charts since Shabba Ranks in 1991.

Shaggy is one of the few artistes in the world to receive the prestigious Diamond Award for having sold over 20 million albums worldwide from one album.

Other popular hit singles which followed include “Angel”, “Hey Sexy Lady”, “Strength of A Woman”, “Wild 2 Night” and “Church Heathen”. Shaggy will also be performing with his full band of musicians.

Jay Sean

Jay Sean is best known for his back to back songs, “Down” featuring Lil Wayne, and “Do You Remember” featuring Sean Paul. Combined, these two singles have sold more than ten million copies worldwide. “Down” peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and garnered over 130 million views on YouTube and became a VEVO Certified video.

This catapulted Jay Sean and his US debut album All or NK into a league reserved for few. “Down” also became Cash Money Records first track to snag the #1 spot on the Top 40 Radio Chart.

The album was followed by the now worldwide platinum single,”2012 (It Ain’t the End),” featuring Trini-born rapper and singer, Nicki Minaj and “Hit the Lights” featuring world renown rapper Lil Wayne. In 2012 the single “I’m All Yours” featuring Pitbull was also released.

Set to release his Cash Money Records/Universal Republic follow-up in 2013, the highly anticipated fourth album, is the strongest realisation of the singer’s vision to date: a lethal combination of Pop, R&B and Dance music that bridges the singer’s myriad musical interests.

Jay Sean is currently featured on DJ Pauly D’s first single, off of his debut album. The song, Back To Love, is now available on iTunes. Jay Sean’s first single, Where You Are, from his forthcoming album is set to release this February.

Showtime is 7.30 pm.
