REGGAE IN AFRICA: BOB MARLEY CELEBRATIONS GATHER MOMENTUM IN ZIMBABWE!

BY LOVEMORE MEYA—

The 32nd commemorations of the life of legendary Jamaican reggae icon Bob Marley are at an advanced level with more than 15 artistes geared up for the show scheduled for the Harare Gardens this Saturday.

The annual commemorations are running under the theme, “One Love . . . Let’s get together and feel all right” and is organised by Zim Reggae Artistes and Musicians.

Trevor Hall, better known as Ras Jabu who is the spokesperson, promised a bigger and better event for this year.

“We are proud to host the celebrations since Marley inspired local musicians to play reggae music and to date, Zimbabwe has become the hub for reggae music on the continent. Our patrons are guaranteed of a greater day with vibes of unity and togetherness taking centre stage.

As the nation gears for the harmonised elections, we will be dropping good vibes of peace, love, and harmony,” he said.

He said there was going to be a fun-filled family day since reggae music cuts across boundaries, age, race and ethnicity.

“We are looking forward to the day with a hope that people are going to come in numbers to support our initiative. Bob Marley said, ‘One love, one heart let’s get together and feel all right’. This can only be achievable on Saturday with one beat that is, reggae drum and bass,” said Ras Jabu.

Some of the leading reggae groups lined up include Transit Crew, Mannex and Mo Fire, I-Wata, Man Souljah, Lady Thanda and others. However, plans are afoot in future to bring in international stars to the commemorations.

“We are planning on bringing international musicians for the commemorations. We were supposed to have foreign artistes this year. Unfortunately, there was a delay in securing work permits and clearances for them,” he said.
