KY-ENIE ACOUSTICALLY RETURNS TO “THE ROOT OF THE MUSIC!”

BY RICHARD JOHNSON—–

REGGAE artist Kyenie has returned to his homeland to connect with, what he terms, “the root of the music”.

The St Ann-born artist is currently working on an album and has released two singles Glory Days (with German rappers Mic Royal and Iva) and Superstar.

KY-ENIE… I am bringing the vibe to the people acoustically

“The video for these two singles will be shot here in Jamaica starting next week. We will also be releasing a full English version of Glory Days for the Jamaican market,” Kyenie says.

Armed with his guitar, he took the stage at To Mom With Love Show at the Lime Golf Academy in New Kingston on Mother’s Day, his biggest local gig to date.

“The people really loved the acoustic vibration that we spread and I loved doing it for them,” he says.

“I am mostly into roots reggae and lover’s rock music, and so that’s why I am bringing the vibe to the people acoustically,” he adds.

Kyenie, whose given name is Germaine Ferguson, has been making music for just over a decade from his base in America. He has also been plying his trade in Europe.

His single, Rain, was included on the soundtrack of Shottas (2002) which stars Ky-Mani Marley and Spragga Benz. He has also performed songwriting duties for Robert Livingston’s Big Yard music.

With his musical influences ranging from reggae king Bob Marley to Sizzla, rocker Lenny Kravitz, soul sister Tracy Chapman and alternative act Alanis Morisette, he feels Jamaica ready for him.

“Most definitely. Six or seven years ago, I tried to bring that acoustic sound and it just wasn’t the right time. I find that people are more open to hear it now,” he said
