JIMMY CLIFF TO RELEASE “THE KCRW SESSION” AN ACOUSTIC RECORDING AT THE WEST COAST RADIO STATION!

By Basil Walters—-

WITH the success of his Grammy-winning album Rebirth still fresh, Jimmy Cliff is to release an acoustic set from a radio show he recorded last June.

The album, The KCRW Session, was recorded during

Cliff’s visit to Los Angeles public radio station KCRW for an acoustic performance of nine songs, on its Morning Becomes Eclectic programme.

The album is scheduled for a June 25 release by Universal Music Enterprises.

It includes songs like Trapped (which has been covered by Bruce Springsteen), Cliff’s take on The Clash’s Guns Of Brixton, World Upside Down, Wonderful World, Beautiful People, You Can Get It If You Really Want, Children’s Bread, Many Rivers To Cross, I Can See Clearly Now and One More.

In addition to singing, Cliff played guitar on all the songs.

“This session is one of my fondest memories from the KCRW studios,” says Jason Bentley, the station’s music director.

“Jimmy Cliff sat right down with his guitar and gave 110 per cent on every song, and then proved himself a gentleman in thoughtful conversation. We all felt graced by a living legend that day, and we witnessed a truly special performance that I’m proud to say lives on through this recording,” he continued.

Released last year, Rebirth was produced by Tim Armstrong of punk-ska band Rancid. The 13-track album received rave reviews, with Rolling Stone magazine describing it as Cliff’s “best music in decades”.
