The City of Miramar will observe National Caribbean-American Heritage Month (June) at the staging of its Culture in the Night Concert Series on June 22, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Shirley Branca Park, 6900 Miramar Parkway. This FREE family event will feature music, dance, poetry and food, celebrating the diverse heritage and culture of the Caribbean.

Reggae singer Glen Washington to headline variety show in Miramar on June 22

The variety show will feature an array of musical genres with performances from renowned reggae vocalist Glen Washington and Code Red Band, soca and calypso by Caribbean Music Farm and the Silver Stars USA Steel Orchestra, Gospel singer, Audley Rollen, Latin rhythms by Laura Viva & Remix, compass by Shleu Shleu and the new school sounds of Kali Akeylah.  The Body Nation Dancers will spice up the evening with their energetic moves while poet Damali Adele Ife will motivate and inspire through her words. Comedian Rohan Gunter will bring smiles to faces and DJ Trooklyn will keep spirits high between performances with a selection of dance hits.  A Kidz Zone will keep young children and teens busy with a variety of rides, face painting and video games.

 

 

Vice Mayor, Alexandra P. Davis states that “the event highlights the diversity of our great City by providing an opportunity for all to see the many facets of our Caribbean community.” The City Of Miramar is a culturally diverse community, home to Caribbeans, Hispanics, African-Americans and Anglos. The City is not only ethnically and culturally diverse, but also economically diverse. Miramar prides itself on its ability to communicate and create a vision by working with the residents and all sectors of the community, by creating partnerships through shared communication and visioning.

Vendors selling novelties, Caribbean food as well as cool drinks to quench the thirst of revelers enjoying the evening’s entertainment will be on hand.  Attendees are urged to take their blankets, chairs and cameras for comfort and to capture highlights of what will be a perfectly wonderful evening.
