GLEN WASHINGTON LEADS THE CAST AT CARIBBEAN-AMERICAN HERITAGE CELEBRATION IN MIRAMAR, SOUTH FLORIDA!

Popular reggae singer, songwriter and drummer, Glen Washington, will lead a diverse group of entertainers scheduled to perform at the Caribbean-American Heritage Celebration in the City of Miramar on Saturday, June 22 at Shirley Branca Park.  The event, which begins at 4:00 p.m., is a Free family-friendly variety show featuring music, dance, poetry and food, celebrating the diverse heritage and culture of the Caribbean.

Glen Washington returns to Miramar to electrify the stage with his catalog of hits.

This will be a homecoming of sorts, for the former Miramar resident, who has seen hiscareer take a soaring ascent, from humble beginnings in the parish of Clarendon, Jamaica in the seventies, to currently being one of the most sought after singers in reggae music. Washington has been busy belting his tunes in various Caribbean islands, North American cities and also in Europe where his fans are always eager to see him as he lights up a stage with his solid catalog of hits and a strong presence.  “Miramar will be in for a treat,” says Washington, as he has not performed in South Florida for quite some time and will be happy to see friends and fans alike.

June is Caribbean-American Heritage Month, and the City of Miramar is a diverse city with a large Caribbean population.  According to Vice Mayor, Alexandra P. Davis “the event highlights the diversity of our great City and provides an opportunity for all to enjoy the many facets of our Caribbean community.”

Singer, songwriter Kali Akeylah will be bringing a new age sound to the stage.

In addition to Washington, the variety show will feature an array of musical genres and cultural performances such as reggae hits by Code Red Band, soca and calypso by Caribbean Music Farm and the Silver Stars USA Steel Orchestra, Gospel singer, Audley Rollen, Latin rhythms by Laura Vivas & Remix, compass by Shleu Shleu and the new school sounds of Kali Akeylah.  The Body Nation Dancers will add spice to the evening with their energetic moves while poet Damali Adele Ife will motivate and inspire through her words. Comedian Rohan Gunter will add a sprinkle of humor and DJ Trooklyn will offer a selection of Caribbean dance hits between performances.  A Kidz Zone will keep young children and teens busy with a variety of rides, face painting and video games.

Tasty Caribbean food, cool drinks and novelties will be on sale by vendors to ensure that everyone in attendance enjoy the evening.  Attendees are urged to take their blankets, chairs and cameras for comfort and to capture highlights of what will be a delightfully entertaining evening.  For more information, call 954-602-3319.
