JAMAICA JAZZ & BLUES WELCOME YOUNG STARS JANUARY 30 – FEBRUARY 1

The Trelawny Multipurpose Stadium will be energised with the addition of young reggae sensations, Chronixx, Protoje and Christopher Martin to the 18th staging of the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival.

Scheduled for January 30-February 1, the organisers have identified the value of incorporating younger acts into the three-day music Festival.

The 2014 staging is already shaped to deliver quality performances and the organisers feel the inclusion of younger acts will serve to attract the younger generation to the festival and simultaneously diversify its offerings with different genres of music.

Chronixx, Bryan Art and Christopher Martin are slated to perform on Thursday, January 30 while Protoje will take the stage for his Jazz debut, preparing a full band presentation on Friday, January 31.

The trio, One Third, graduates from an impressive talent stage performance last year, are to open the festival’s main stage on Saturday, February 1.

Chronixx has been making waves both locally and internationally as the young vocalist set out to establish himself with songs like Behind Curtain, They Don’t Know, Smile Jamaica and Here Comes Trouble.

His string of hits has quickly gained him the respect and adoration of reggae fans of all ages across the world.

No stranger to the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival, the exceptional vocalist, Christopher Martin, will be seeking to make a lasting impression with his trademark charismatic and interactive performance.

“I’m looking forward to showcasing my talents on such a big stage to all the different music lovers attending from all over the diaspora. I am looking forward to delivering all those songs people have grown to love and respect me for,” Martin said.

Screaming female fans have been captivated by songs like Paper Loving, Chill Spot, Take My Wings and Cheater’s Prayer. The same is expected on the Jazz stage.

Protoje

This year, Protoje will make his full solo debut on the Jamaica Jazz & Blues stage with an excellent catalogue of songs such as Kingston Be Wise and Who Them a Program off his sophomore album, The Eight Year Affair.

Fans can expect the music to speak for itself when Protoje takes the stage after a nine-month hiatus from performing in Jamaica.

Protoje revealed, “It’s just roots reggae music coming at you, dub-wise, dub-style, heavy roots music and all. I haven’t performed in Jamaica in almost a year, so I’m looking forward to touching the stage and giving the people a real nice experience”.

Protoje is the reggae act to share the stage with R&B crooner Joe, Chrisette Michele and six-time Grammy winner, Toni Braxton. “It is a joy for be on the festival, working on the same night as Toni Braxton and Chrisette Michele who are some extraordinary vocalists.” The artiste is currently working on his third album to be released later this year.
