LOVERS’ ROCK SONGSTRESS SANDRA CROSS, RELEASES NEW SINGLE “RICHMOND AVENUE!”

British lovers’ rock singer Sandra Cross—-BRITISH lovers’ rock singer Sandra Cross reflects on a failed romance in her latest release, Richmond Avenue.

In an interview with the Jamaica Observer, she spoke about the song’s origins.

“Richmond Avenue is a road in North West London. It holds the dearest and sweetest memories of what I thought were a very strong and meaningful relationship with someone I was seeing,” she explained. “However, during the years of waiting for him to come to me 100 per cent, suddenly he just disappeared… literally left the country and ran off with someone else!”

Cross, who is in her 40s, was born in London to Jamaican parents. A key figure in the British lovers rock movement, her hits include Put It On, I Just Don’t Care and I Can’t Let You Go.

Next month, she will release her new album, Just As I Am, produced by Carlton ‘Dillie’ McLeod from Stingray Records.

Cross’ previous album, 2008’s True Singers — Sandra Cross Meets Sadiki, was released solely in Japan.

According to Cross, reggae is thriving in the United Kingdom with its following becoming more diverse.

“I’ve been to various reggae shows where the majority of the audiences are young Caucasian fans, therefore I believe there is a definite rise in reggae,” she said. A downside is the decline in reggae record stores in the United Kingdom.

“This is a sad sign of the times. There are no record charts, so it’s hard to gauge what is going on in terms of sales. Downloads have taken over which has both positive and negative effects on the industry,” Cross noted.
