SHOULD VYBZ KARTEL BE ALLOWED TO MAKE MUSIC IN PRISON?

KINGSTON, Jamaica —

Justice Lennox Campbell is mulling over whether or not he will make a ruling which will allow convicted entertainer Vybz Kartel to record songs while he is incarcerated.

During Thursday morning’s sitting where Kartel’s sentencing was postponed, Justice Campbell told the court that he was not sure if that option was available to the artist.

Justice Campbell made reference to the case of Jah Cure (real name Sycatore Alcock) who recorded songs while incarcerated in Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre for rape.

“In a previous matter when a person was convicted who had some artistic talent certain things were done. It needs to be found out whether in fact it was open to the court for any of those proceeds gained could go to repairing any of the damages to the relatives of the deceased,” Justice Campbell said.

The sentencing of Kartel (Adidja Palmer), Shawn ‘Storm’ Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St John was postponed until next week Thursday after Justice Campbell told defence lawyers that he had instructed the registrar of the Supreme Court to draft a letter informing them that he needed assistance from the defence and prosecution about several matters relating to sentencing guidelines for the four men.

However  the defence attorneys informed the judge that they had not received the letter.

In contrast to his jaded appearance after being found guilty two Thursdays ago, Vybz Kartel appeared calm and even smiled during the court hearing.
