A Jamaican woman has been granted permission to enter the UK after Britain initially refused her request to visit the country to support her seriously ill brother.

Keisha Rushton is expected to collect her visa today from the UK High Commission in Kingston and is scheduled to arrive in London within a few days.

Ms.  Rushton had previously applied to the UK Home Office to for a visitor’s visa so that she could donate a kidney to her brother, Oliver Cameron who resides in Britain.

However, she was denied entry on the grounds that she could not be trusted to return to Jamaica. Politicians, religious leaders, migrant groups and journalists had pleaded with the Home Office to permit Ms. Rushton’s entry as it could save her brother’s life.

The UK’s visa denial also prompted petitions. Her brother, who lives in north London, has been unable to work since suffering a near-fatal renal failure in 2012. He needs a kidney transplant to avoid daily dialysis.

Ms. Rushton was found to be a compatible donor and arrangements were made for surgery last October. However, her application to visit was denied.

It’s understood that British Immigration Minister, James Brokenshire, reviewed the case personally and reversed his office’s decision.
