TESSANNE CHIN HAD TRINIDADIAN FANS “BEGGING FOR MORE!”

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad —

Jamaican recording artist and Season Five winner of NBC’s reality singing competition The Voice, Tessanne Chin, had patrons asking for more at the Youthopia on Saturday evening, singing many of her popular tunes such as “Hide Away” and “Redemption Song.

Speaking with the media following her performance on stage, she said her life has changed since The Voice, and her upcoming album was 80 per cent completed.

“I try to do my best work. I would not necessarily say it’s pressure, but I feel like my people deserve the best of me,” Chin said.

She noted  she wishes to work with Damien “Junior Gong” Marley, and other collaborations are ongoing.

“For me it’s just about what feels right, what feels true to me. Whatever I do is always going to have a reggae or island sway to it, because that’s who I am,” Chin said.

Saturday evening was Chin’s first time performing in Tobago, and she did not disappoint.

She said Trinidadian soca artist Kees Dieffenthaller had been like a brother to her.

She also sang a rendition of Bunji Garlin’s ‘Truck On D Road’ during her performance.

Chin recalled that performing for President of the United States Barack Obama and the First Lady Michelle had been an awesome experience, one of the proud moments of her life. She also hopes to perform one day for Queen Elizabeth II.

“When they told me that we had an opportunity to sing for President Obama and First Lady Michelle, I was like stop punking me. Y’all are punking me. Cause that’s something on your bucket list. So I guess I’m going to have to put down the Queen next.
