Songstress Cherine Anderson and her Reach One Child Foundation (R.O.C) have announced that applications for the 2014 R.O.C.scholarship program are now open.

The R.O.C. scholarship programme was established to recognise and support grade-six students from primary and all-age schools who excel in academics, service and the arts.

One other criterion for consideration is that the applicant must have a financial need. For those who meet the requirements, the scholarships generally cover full tuition, text-books, uniform and other supplies.

The deadline for submissions of applications is Monday, June 30.

Separate from the R.O.C scholarships there is also the Cherine Anderson Scholarship which will be awarded to the top two students who demonstrate superior academic achievement, excellent record of extra-curricular activities, leadership and community and/or school service.

Special consideration will be given to students who also excel in the areas of music, drama, dance, debate, quiz, and/or hold positions in student government (student council). This scholarship will also cover full tuition, textbooks, and school supplies.

The foundation was established in 2004 under the mantra “each one, teach one to reach one”. They are dedicated to providing scholarships but also serve to establish mentorship programs for youth islandwide.

Last year, 21 students from across the island were awarded scholarships.

All R.O.C. beneficiaries are required to ‘give back’ through service to their schools and/or communities.

Most scholars serve as student mentors during the foundation’s annual school-tour initiative. Interested persons are asked to view more details on the foundations’ website at reachonechild.org.

As part of the foundation’s outreach project, the singer and her team embarked on their third annual school tour titled, Stand For Something.

At the start of the tour on May 13, Anderson told media she and the foundation were thrilled they could continue the initiative for a third year, stating “one of the greatest investments we can make in this country is in the education of our children.” The tour is expected to end on June 14.
