DJ G7 WANTS TO BRING BACK THE “GOOD OLD TIMES” TO THE DANCEHALL!

 Howard Campbell—

Dancehall deejay G7—

EVER since his days working the Portmore sound system circuit, deejay G7 had a desire to spark a return to the ‘ole’ time dancehall days.

Two years ago, he got that opportunity by launching his recording career with Gimmie, which was followed by Dem a Devil and Love Yuh Right Now.

Those songs were produced by Warrior Chief, a label owned by Jamaica’s champion jockey Dane Nelson.

“Me’d a like bring back the original dancehall vibes, wha’ man like General Trees and Shabba (Ranks) did have,” he said. “Dat missing from the thing now.”

Trees and Shabba Ranks are two of G7’s biggest influences. Originally from Drewsland in Waterhouse, he grew up in the Portmore community of Waterford, which has a vibrant sound system scene.

Gimmie, Dem a Devil and Love Yuh Right Now were recorded in New jersey. G7 (given name Garfield Reid) moved to the Garden State seven years ago.

His latest song, Hold di Man, is produced by Terrence McDonald for the T7G Music label and is scheduled for release in July.

G7 is currently working on songs with producer Rohan ‘Snow Cone’ Fuller, whose credits include Sean Paul’s Temperature and Lightning Flash by Shane O.
