DANCEHALL ARTIST RICHIE LOOP IS GOING CULTURAL!

RICHIE LOOP… always wants to record songs which cover all topics—

Two years ago, ‘clubbers’ were intoxicated by My Cupp, an uptempo party song that introduced singer Richie Loop.

His latest songs are a departure from that breakthrough hit and previous recordings which were done to computer-generated beats.

From di Ghetto, which is recorded on Gully Bank Musik Ltd’s live Liberty Hall ‘riddim’, is an introduction to the new Richie Loop.

“I neva waan be jus’ a dancehall artist…mi waan do a country album, a pop album. Mi jus’ waan do music,” he said.

Given the party flavor of songs like My Cupp and Party Like It’s Your Birthday (which he did with D Major and Busy Signal), Richie Loop says it took some effort convincing producer David ‘Scorpion’ Harris of Gully Bank Musik, to let him take a crack at the Liberty Hall.

“When him finally hear the tune, him shock,” Loop recalled. “But mi always waan record songs dat cover all topics… girls tune, social commentary…”

Fire di Ghetto and other songs on the Liberty Hall are expected to be released this month.

My Cupp remains Richie Loop’s biggest hit. Inspired by a television interview with rapper Li’l Wayne, the song was produced by Big Yard Entertainment.

Though that company was responsible for most of Richie Loop’s early productions, the Jones Town-born artiste had recorded self-produced songs while living in the Longville Park area of Clarendon.

From di Ghetto is the first in a series of songs produced by Gully Bank Musik, recorded on live roots beats dedicated to Pan African giant Marcus Garvey.

“Is a new phase an’ mi very excited ’bout it. Mi caan wait fi dem drop,” he said.
