JOSHUA KESLER – THE REGGAE GOSPEL SINGER WITH A DIFFERENCE!

MISSION: Joshua Kesler wants to spread the gospel through reggae music—

JOSHUA KESLER is a reggae gospel artist with a difference. Not only does he sing and has just released his debut album Lift Him Up. He’s a theology graduate, an ordained minister who regularly visits prisons, and is fast becoming a popular radio host due to the hot topics he covers on his show on Ruach Radio.

Of his singing reggae gospel, he says: “Reggae music is a powerful medium that I utilise to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ and to minister to all, not just believers but the album has crossed over into the mainstream. I give God the glory for what he has done and is still doing through this project.”

And if anyone believes people’s lives can’t be touched by reggae gospel, Kesler shares a story which proves they can. He recalls that while singing at a church in Stoke Newington, a couple experiencing relationship problems were in the audience.

The wife had an encounter with the Holy Spirit, which helped transform their relationship for the better.

He recalls: “The couple called the organisers the following day explaining the encounter they experienced and said they needed to know more about Jesus. They said if this is what Christians experience they could not afford to be left out and needed to be introduced to a church immediately.”

It’s no surprise that Kesler’s music is transforming lives. The Christian faith has been embedded in him since childhood. His Jamaican parents sent him and his siblings to church as children.

He left as a teenager because he felt it was out of touch, only to return as an adult. Kesler recommitted his life to Christ in a Baptist church, where he first served as a youth leader and went on to study theology before being ordained as a minister.

He is now a member of Ruach City Church, one of London’s largest black-led Pentecostal churches, where he’s a minister and also a personal assistant to its founder, Bishop John Francis.

It’s a role he’s enjoying.

“I love working with Bishop Francis” he says. “He is very humorous but at the same very much focused and business minded.

“I enjoy all aspects of my role. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes and for me it’s a perfect opportunity to learn more about ministry, development of character and preparation for where the Lord is taking me.”

Laughing, Kesler adds: “One of the perks of the position is that I do get to travel with Bishop Francis from time to time. Please note this is not a holiday but ministry.”

He is excited by a future he believes holds many good things ahead, but is quick to emphasise that his main focus is to serve Jesus.

“My endeavour is to minister the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the medium of reggae music that will challenge, touch and transform the minds and hearts of people over to Christ” Kesler says.
