THE DAUGHTER OF DANCEHALL LEGEND YELLOWMAN, NOW TURNS TO MUSIC!

FOSTER… my dad is very supportive of me being an entertainer—

One year ago, Kareema Foster was working as an Emergency Medical Technician in New Jersey when she got an urge to make a career change.

That change was musical. Recently, she recorded her first song, We Don’t Give a What, which she describes as “roots-reggae, dancehall and pop”.

“It was one of the first songs I wrote when I quit my job as an EMT, and decided to pursue my passion for music full-time,” she told Splash. “It serves as my introductory war cry, saying, ‘I’m here now! It’s my time now’!”

Foster, a singjay, is the daughter of dancehall legend Yellowman. Though she worked in the medical field, she always wanted to emulate her ‘old man’.

One of her early gigs was an appearance at Tastee’s Talent Contest, the show that signaled the start of her father’s illustrious career in the late 1970s.

“My Dad is very supportive of me being an entertainer. He is constantly giving me advice on what to expect and how to navigate the industry,” said the Queens High School past student. “Like every supportive father, he is very protective; however, he encourages and inspires me to be the best at my craft.”

Last year, she performed Blueberry Hill (Yellowman’s cover of the Fats Domino classic) alongside her father at a show in Queens, New York.

We Don’t Give a What is available on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.
