SINGJAY Latty J stands up for the ladies on Same Pay, her latest song, which is produced by Danny Browne.

The feisty single was released last month.

“While some may see me as a feminist after hearing the single, I see it as an avenue to speak for women, not just what is physically appealing about them but matters of value,” said Latty J.

The 26-year-old, whose real name is Latoya Jackson, says she has faced her share of sexism.

“The first time I ever worked as a security guard most of the men were saying I’m not cut out for the job… I was too girly,” she recalled

Through Same Pay, Latty J hopes to bring attention to the hard work women put in in other male-dominated fields.

“I think it’s gonna show the real strength of women and not just child bearing. I know the females will appreciate it, and the men who believe in equality will love this track,” she said.

The former Papine High School head girl was runner-up in the 2011 Digicel Rising Stars talent competition.

Same Pay is a change of pace for Latty J. Her previous songs, which include Put Up Unu Hand produced by Rohan ‘Jah Snowcone’ Fuller and Who Rule (with Mr Vegas) were aimed at an hardcore audience.

It is among the comeback secular songs for Browne who turned to gospel music after becoming a Christian 15 years ago.

In the 1990s, Browne operated the Main Street label, a dominant force in dancehall during that decade.
