DAVE Barker, who had a massive hit in the United Kingdom over 40 years ago with Double Barrel, has teamed with Irish ska band Supertonic Sound Club, on their latest song.
Scheherazade is the name of the song which was released digitally Monday and on vinyl as a 7-inch.
The seven-piece group, who are from Dublin, have a strong following in their hometown as well as among Ireland’s underground ska scene.
For Scheherazade, they contacted Barker who retains cult stardom in London where he has lived since the early 1970s.
A video for Scheherazade, also featuring the Kingston-born Barker, has been released.
Barker and keyboardist Ansel Collins hit it big with Double Barrel which made the top 10 of the United Kingdom national chart in 1971. Co-written by Barker, Collins and Winston Riley, the song was arranged by Collins who also played keyboards.
Double Barrel featured a teenaged drummer named Sly Dunbar.
Barker and Collins had a minor UK hit with the follow-up, Monkey Spanner.
