Foundation deejay Michigan is gearing up to release his six-song EP DJ Legend, scheduled for release at the end of September.

It is the forerunner to his upcoming album of the same name.

In an interview with Splash, Michigan said, “It’s all about going back to basics. It’s foundation style, the kind of songs I am known for.”

Featured tracks on the EP include its title song, DJ Legend, Dance Nice, People Rise (with Yami Bolo) and High Grade.

The EP and album are co-produced by French companies Flash It Records and Man U Digital and Michigan’s Rashanco Music.

Michigan (Anthony Fairclough) is best known to dancehall fans as half of Michigan and Smiley, who had a number of hit songs in the late 1970s and 1980s.

Those hits included Nice up The Dance, Diseases, One Love Jamdown and Sugar Daddy.

There is a growing demand for that type of stripped-down sound, Michigan stressed.

“It’s back to the days when I used to deejay in the dancehall, because that’s what the business is now going back to,” he said.

At the same time, he keeps up with contemporary rends. He recently cut a single with Mexican artiste Jah Fabio, a co- production between Rashanco and Fabio’s Hotta Lava Music label.

“It’s the best of both worlds, foundation dancehall laced with reggaeton,” said Michigan.
