DANCEHALL ARTIST CHICO IS MAKING A COMEBACK!

AFTER a six-year break, dancehall artist Chico said he is on the comeback trail.

The singjay is hoping to create a buzz with his latest singles Fulla Tricks, Tone It Down, Sexy Body Gyal and Say Whe yu a Say featuring Ward 21’s Suku.

Produced by Dre Day Music and released in August, Chico said Fulla Tricks is catchy and will resonate with the listeners.

“It’s a song directed at the females who think they are full of tricks and can empty a man’s pocket,” Chico told the Jamaica Observer.

“Sexy Body Gyal is basically the opposite, as it’s a shout-out to the sexy, independent ladies, who are not afraid or too lazy to work for what they want,” he continued.

In explaining the reason for his absence, Chico said it was a bit difficult to find producers, as most of them are now home-based.

“The music took a turn with the producers. That is, the producers that were prevalent in my era are no longer hot. So, I was trying to get myself familiarised with the new ones,” he said.

The singjay said there is a stark difference with today’s music.

“The music now is raw and unedited. Several years ago, it was subtle and suggestive. But now, not much is left to the imagination, as everything is just ‘in your face’,” he said.

Chico, given name Patrick Walker, released his debut single, Why oh Why for King Jammys recording label in 1993. The track was a cover of a Tevin Campbell original.

Even though he was not officially signed, he became a fixture at Danny Browne’s Mainstreet Label where he released Stamina Body. He is known for other singles such as Nah Support Dem, Yuh Nuh Care, Grudgeful and Nuh Watch Gyal featuring Alozade.
