“CLARENDON STING CAN’T KEEP…PERIOD” DECLARES ISAIAH LAING WHILE CITING INFRINGEMENT RIGHTS!

By Horace Fisher—Promoter and deejay Celcius got a harsh lesson in copyright infringement after Supreme Promotions Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Isaiah Laing pulled the plug on his October 24 stage show, Clarendon Sting, with a stern warning that the full force of the law will be unleashed if there is any further infringement of Supreme Promotion’s copyright.Isaiah Laing, promoter of the annual Boxing Day stage show Sting, said that the name ‘Sting’ is synonymous with Supreme Promotion and he is putting his foot down and warning promoters who piggyback on the company’s copyright.

“Clarendon Sting can’t keep … period! The name ‘Sting’ is synonymous with me … Isaiah Laing, and I have spoken to the promoter and the show is now called Clarendon Ting,” a resolute Isaiah Laing insisted in an interview withThe weekend Star. “And any further infringement of my copyright for any so-called Clarendon Sting, Ghetto Sting, Country Sting or any other show associated with the name Sting, the police will have to be called in.”

The apologetic promoter, DJ Celcius, in admitting to what he called an oversight on his part, reasoned that Clarendon Sting wasn’t a deliberate intention to infringe on the Supreme Promotion’s brand. He says the show will go ahead as planned, albeit with the name change.

According to the Summer Pon Me artist, the show was planned to fill the void left by the absence of an authentic stage show in central Jamaica after Rebel Salute moved from Manchester to St Elizabeth before settling in St Ann. He also pointed to a number of prominent annual shows which have since dropped off the stage-show calendar.

“The show was conceptualised to fill the void left by the relocation of Rebel Salute from central Jamaica, and we no longer have Reggae Ram Jam, Jam Jam and Island Explosion in May Pen anymore,” he added.

Celcius noted that Clarendon Ting is a show long in waiting and will feature some of the industry’s biggest names, including KipRich, Merciless, Gage, Dez-I, Silver Cat, Kashu, Little Hero, Gaza Kim, Don Mafia, D-Medz, Tonto Blacks, LA Lewis, and a host of other artists, selectors and dancers.
