Foundation deejay Sister Carol will have the chance of a lifetime when she makes a cameo appearance in the upcoming movie, Ricki and The Flash, starring Meryl Streep.

“In this movie she plays a small role interacting with Meryl Streep,” her manager Dean Wauchope, told The Gleaner.

Due to a confidentiality clause, he could not go into any specific details on exactly what the scene will entail.

Ricki and The Flash, which is now being edited for an August release, is about a woman who gave up her family to become a rock star and then gets a chance to get everything back where it was. Other stars in the film are Kevin Kline and Rick Springfield.

Although it’s a small role, her manager sees it as a big step. “Whenever you are in a movie, interacting with an actress of this calibre, it gives one a chance to expand your fan base to a new and sometimes familiar audience, so we give thanks for this opportunity,” he said.

This is not the first time the deejay has enjoyed cameo appearances in major films. In 1986, she appeared in Something Wild with Melaine Griffiths and Jeff Daniels, followed by Married to the Mob, with Michelle Pfeiffer two years later. In 2008, she also had another small role inRachel Getting Married, starring Anne Hathaway.

After over 34 years in the business, Sister Carol is still very much in demand.

“She is always working and touring, promoting her works,” said Wauchope, adding that next month she will be doing a week-long stint on the US West Coast.

Sister Carol is also still promoting her last album, Live No Evil, which was released in January last year on the Black Cinderella label.

Born Carol Theresa East, and now in her mid-50s, Sister Carol hails from the west Kingston community of Denham Town. She migrated to New York at age 14 and it was there that she got involved in the thriving world of dancehall.

Among her many releases are Liberation for Africa, Black Cinderella,Oh Jah Jah, and Dread Natty Congo.

Looking ahead, Sister Carol will be pushing her Black Cinderella clothing line and will also be appearing in the soon-to-be-released Bob Marley documentary, Stay with the Rhythms.
