CANADIAN-BASED REGGAE SINGER MIKEY DANGEROUS GETS HIS SECOND JUNO AWARD NOMINATION!

LAST week, singer Mikey Dangerous earned his second Juno Award nomination for Best Reggae Recording, for the song Wake Up.

The song, released on the Dub Avenue label and produced by Scorpio B, has done well in Canadian reggae circles.

Mikey Dangerous won the Juno (Canada’s version of the Grammy) in 2008 for the song Don’t Go. He said his career received an instant boost.

“Let’s just say the Juno got me more publicity, therefore leading to more notoriety within and outside of Canada. It gave me and my team more credibility,” he told the Jamaica Observer. “The award put my name in the history books and now I can be officially recognised as one of the top reggae talents representing out of Canada.”

Wake Up, which Dangerous describes as a ‘reality song’, has been on The Rebel Vibez Top 10 Canadian Reggae Charts for 10 straight weeks.

Its success coincides with Dangerous being named among the ’10 Canadian Reggae Artists You Need to Hear, recently released by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).

The Montreal-based artist is originally from Kingston 12. Born Michael Glanville, he migrated to Canada in 1989.

He recalled his start in the music business.

“When I moved to Canada, a promoter in Montreal needed somebody to open the show for Shabba (Ranks). I basically stepped up to the plate and performed my first show ever. It was history from there.”

Dangerous made his recording debut in 1995 with Rasta Don’t Dwell, for the Young Lions Production label. Since then, he has scored Canadian reggae hits such as Anywhere Anytime, Don’t Go Pretending, Higher Than High, TGIF, So Proud, You are So Fine, Your Love, the Only one, Can’t Stop My Flow, and Silent Treatment.

He has collaborated with acts including Dubmatic, Canadian Rhythm and Blues singer Addictive and dancehall artist Iyara.

Although he has had a number of well-received songs in Canada, Mikey Dangerous is yet to release an album.

“I’ve released so many singles on different labels with different producers from all over the world. The album is the next step for me right now,” he said.
