GERMANY’S CHEF STEFFEN PRASE RETURNS WITH PART-TWO OF “MOA FIRE – NUTRITION FOR SOUL”

AFTER highlighting the formula for Ital cuisine in his first book, Moa Fire: Nutrition For The Soul, German chef Steffen Prase returns for a second serving with Moa Fire Part II.

The book was recently released in Germany. Published in German, it shows Prase with several Jamaican artistes in the neo roots-reggae movement, preparing their favourite recipes.

Kabaka Pyramid, Infinite, Micah Shamaiah, Israel Voice and Exile di Brave are some of the entertainers in Moa Fire Part II.

“It gives fans, especially the youths a chance to look into their pots and see what they’re eating. Hopefully, it will stop them from eating all the junk,” said Prase.

Most of the artists in Moa Fire: Nutrition For The Soul were German. Prase befriended many of them while preparing meals at music festivals throughout his country.

His visibility at these events earned him the nickname, Da Sandwichmaker. Prase said Joseph Hill of Culture, Etana and Busy Signal are some of the Jamaican performers he has prepared meals for since first setting up at festivals in 2003.

In 2013, he visited Jamaica to interview artists for the follow-up to his 2011 debut. He discovered that most of them have similar tastes.

“Most of them cook ital, no meat, no fish. There’s cheese and cream in some recipes but most is vegan,” Prase said.

The 41-year-old Prase is from Vildenberg, a town in southern Germany. He said he has worked in some of that country’s top hotels, and was introduced to ital cuisine on his first visit to Jamaica in 1999.
