IN 10 years as a solo act, Elephant Man has performed in several countries, helping to spread the dancehall gospel.

His latest stop was in Dubai, largest city in the United Arab Emirates. He performed there last Saturday on the monthly Beachfest.

The deejay was surprised that dancehall is so popular in the Middle East territory.

“Di ting tun up down dey. Di people dem love the music, love the Energy God (another of his monikers),” Elephant Man told Sunday Observer.

He added that he was unaware that so many Jamaicans lived in Dubai, an oil-rich area that is home to thousands of expatriates.

“Jamaican nuff down dey like New York,” he said.

Elephant Man is the latest dancehall artist to perform this year at Beachfest, which was first held in 2013 by African promoter Kenya Don.

Mr Vegas, Diana King and Red Rat previously worked on the event, which is held at XL Beach Club’s Dubai Marina.

Elephant Man, a former member of the Scare Dem Crew, is scheduled to return to Dubai in July for two shows.
