THE GRACE JAMAICAN JERK FESTIVAL BRINGS FOOD AND FAMILY FUN TO QUEENS, NEW YORK, SUNDAY,JULY 19!

With all the necessary ingredients of food, family and fun, the Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival returns to Roy Wilkins Park in Queens next Sunday from noon to 8 p.m., featuring Jamaican jerk delicacies, cooking competitions, musical performances and happenings for young and old.

Jamaica’s signature spicy jerk-style cuisine is the big attraction at the 5th annual daylong festival and the Jerk Cooking Pavilion will be a center of activity — with the Jerk Cook-off and Celebrity Quick Fire Challenge competitions sparking the creativity of contestants and whetting the appetites of patrons. Among the celebrity participants are Kaci Fennell, Miss Universe Jamaica, and popular culinary stars Chef Eddie G and Chef Irie.

Music and entertainment at the jerk festival includes performances by Sanchez, Romain Virgo, the Fab 5 Band, gospel singers Carlene Davis and David (Kukudoo) McDermott, dancehall classics from disc jockey King Jammys and some great routines by skyrocketing comedian Major Hype.

Dr. Sue (l.), known for her poetry style that’s reminiscent of Jamaica’s cultural giant Miss Lou (Louise Bennett-Coverley) and singer Cheryl Spence (r.) are part of the diverse, family-friendly entertainment lineup at the Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival on July 19.

Performers also include the Akousa Living Legend Afrikan Drum and Dance Troupe, from Miss Lou (Louise Bennett-Coverley) – style poetry by Dr. Sue, book readings by writer/filmmaker Judith Faloon-Reid, singer Cheryl Spence, the Riddim Driven Fashion show and the Konekt Dat Band.

“We want our patrons to have a most fun experience from the moment they enter the gates until they leave,” said Richard Lue, coordinator for the Grace Foods event.
