Stone met Marley when they were members of the group SuperHeavy (which also had Mick Jagger, Dave Stewart and A R Rahman). She said it was he who encouraged her to record a reggae album.

In an interview with the UK Official Charts website, Stone said, “Damian actually said to me, ‘Joss, you have to do a reggae album’. I’m not crazy enough to know that a reggae album from me would be a very weird thing to do, but the songs we’ve created are heavily rooted in that sound. That’s the style of the album.”

Water For Your Soul is released on Stone’s Stone’d Records label. It is her first album since 2011’s LP1 which peaked at number 34 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart.

The album features a collaboration, Wake Up, with Marley who also co-wrote the track, Love Me.

Another song, Harry’s Symphony, samples Barrington Levy’s Here I Come, Young Lover by Cocoa Tea and Bad Boys by Inner Circle.
