Carlene Davis, who has enjoyed a revival in 2015 with the success of her album, Dripping Blood, won the Gospel Song category at last Sunday’s International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) in Fort Lauderdale.

“It has been a blessed year,” said Davis, whose song of the same name got the nod over Papa San’s Deal With It, Lt Stitchie (Letter To Dad) and Leroy Smith (In The Bosom of my Lord).

Dripping Blood, the album, was released in late 2014. It spent 11 weeks on the Billboard Reggae Album Chart this year, peaking at number two.

“We had realised what God had laid on our hearts and so we gave it the best we could in choice of musicians, singers and arrangements,” Davis said.

Distributed by VP Records, Dripping Blood was produced by her husband Tommy Cowan and arranged by John Williams.

The 34th annual IRAWMA was held at Broward College.

Other winners included Chronixx (Entertainer of the Year); Etana (Female Vocalist of the Year, Song of the Year — I Rise, and the Marcus Garvey Humanitarian Work for charity); Tarrus Riley (Best Male Vocalist and Most Cultural/Educational Entertainer); Dexta Daps (Best New Entertainer); and Shane Brown (Producer of the Year). Tommy Cowan received the Pioneer of Reggae and Jamaican Music Promotions and Management Award.
