THE RITA MARLEY FOUNDATION LAUNCHES SCHOOL PEN-PAL IN JAMAICA AND GHANA!

On October 8, the Rita Marley Foundation (Jamaica and Ghana) launched a student letter-exchange (pen pal) program for students at the Holy Trinity Basic School on Maxfield Avenue in Kingston, and Konkonuru Methodist Basic School in Ghana.

Marley adopted the Konkonuru Basic School in 2000 when she was named Nana Afua Adobea I (Queen of Development) for the community of Konkonuru.

Rosemary Duncan, manager of the Rita Marley Foundation Jamaica, said the foundation implemented the program as a fun and innovative way for the little ones to learn about other cultures; practices communication skills, and acquire a foreign language.

Participants are class three students (five years old). The students at Holy Trinity Basic School are eager to learn Twi – the native tongue of the Ghanaian students, while their pen friends in Ghana look forward to acquiring knowledge of Jamaica’s great music and culture.

Their parents and teachers are super excited. They expressed that the pen pal initiative was a great learning tool that would improve their children’s self-confidence and writing skills.
