Montego Bay-based reggae group JaSoul has been quietly carving out a niche for itself on the western Jamaica music circuit over the past nine years.

The quartet, which is comprised of Kenton ‘Kentcole’Coleman, Oneil ‘Newly’ Lawson, Mervin ‘Gatti’ Morris and Kemar ‘Dmeeko’ Holt, is now eyeing the international musical arena.

“Our aim is to become a force within the music industry, a household name not just locally, but also internationally. We would like to make quality music that will have a lasting effect on people, songs that people will remember for years to come,” said Lawson in a recent interview with the Jamaica Observer West.

“JaSoul, armed with a slew of positive, yet fun songs, is gearing up to take their act across the world, starting with several upcoming shows in the Caribbean and North America,” Coleman added.

According to members of the group, their songs such as Breathe, which sat on the number one position on the Netherlands-based Reggae-Vibes.com chart for a number of weeks; Trod On, Loving Jah, True Love and Memories, are enjoying frequent rotation on radio stations internationally.

In 2011, the group performed alongside international acts at the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival. They have also strutted their stuff at the Rainforest Seafood Festival, Reggae Sumfest, and hotels on the north coast.

The group’s motto is: “In God we trust, through music we live, because life is music and music is life”.
