THE COMEBACK TRAILS OF ROOTS SINGER YAMI BOLO!

OF the roots artists who came through the sound system circuit during the 1980’s, Yami Bolo is among the handful still recording and touring.

This year, he returned to the United Kingdom after a 10-year break, doing shows in Newcastle, Nottingham and London alongside Addis Pablo, son of his mentor Augustus Pablo.

Bolo, 45, also released a number of songs. He reflected on 2015 in an interview with this column.

 “It was great, wi give thanks ‘cause wi achieve a great video, a song titled Love Keeping us Together and Cease Fire that went number four on the South Florida chart, and number two on the Foundation Radio Network Top 30 Chart. So, wi jus’ give thanks,” he said.

From Greenwich Town in Kingston, Bolo started his career as a teenager in the early 1980s, rubbing shoulders with artistes such as Junior Delgado, Tenor Saw and White Mice, as well as Augustus Pablo, who produced several of his songs.

During the 1990’s, his hit songs included Love My Weapon and Throw Down Your Weapons.

His latest song is Soul Mate, which he co-produced with Jon Dingo.
