CAPLETON will release his first album since 2010’s Iternal Fire this year. The yet-titled set, largely produced by Clive Hunt, will be distributed by VP Records.
The 48-year-old deejay told the Jamaica Observer that he continuously records new songs which keeps him current. With a number of hit songs going back to the late 1980’s, Capleton retains a consistent tour schedule. “Wi love fi give the album dem space, mek the people dem get fi know the song dem,” he said. “There is never a race fi put out an album.”

Motive, a song produced by Hunt, is likely to make the new album. But Capleton was not prepared to give details on the set, other than it involves other producers.In addition to Motive, he has other songs on the market, including Clean and Pure with Iba Mahr and Larger Than Life. At this stage of his career, Capleton said he is not desperate for hit songs.
“It always important to have a hit song. As an artist, wi always a voice, but some songs don’t get the rotation,” he said. “But the important thing is wi have a catalogue, a track record.”

He had a strong hit last year with Drag On, a collaboration with Stephen Marley and Damian ‘Junior Gong’ Marley.
Capleton (real name Clifton Bailey) exploded out of St Mary in the late 1980s with hard-hitting dancehall songs like No Lotion Man and B..bo Red. In the 1990s, his life and music became more spiritual, which can be heard on anthems such as Tour, Wings of The Morning and Jah Jah City.
The release of the upcoming album, Capleton’s 21st, may coincide with the July return of his St Mary Mi Come From show in his home parish.
