MARCIA GRIFFITHS AND BENJI MYAZ FOR THE “ONE LOVE MUSIC FESTIVAL” IN MONTEGO BAY, FEBRUARY 4!

Kingston, Jamaica –

The evergreen, effervescent Marcia Griffiths, “Queen of Reggae” has joined the charitable efforts of the upcoming One Love Music Festival, slated for Thursday, February 4 – Friday, February 5, 2016, at Rose Hall Great House Lawns and Aqueduct, in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Coming from very humble beginnings herself, Marcia Griffiths is well aware of the depth of the need facing her fellow citizens today and remains committed to giving back to worthy causes through events such as the One Love Music Festival.  “Music alone shall live, and it’s not only for the money, but the satisfaction I get from doing the work that I love, and knowing that I can serve people through my God-given talent,” she says.

In a career spanning over 40 years to date and showing no signs of slowing down, Marcia Griffiths, recipient of the Order of Distinction of Jamaica, has arguably hit more high points than any other female artiste.  From international hit collaborations with Bob Andy and her legendary tenure as a member of the I-threes backing “the King” himself, Hon. Bob Marley, to solo chart stardom as the “Electric Boogie” and “Electric Slide” lady, this trend setter is always current and a favorite of young and old, uptown and downtown alike.

Marcia will be performing at the One Love Charity Gala, on the Lawns of Rose Hall Great House, on Thursday, February 4, with Benjy Myaz, himself an internationally acclaimed Jamaican musician, vocalist, and songwriter.  Long revered and sought after for his abilities on the electric bass, Benjy embarked on a vocal career in the mid-90s.  His cover of the Randy Crawford smash “Love You Higher” proved to be equally successful for him and earned the American singer’s stamp of approval, leading to the ultimate highlight of a live duet performance during the Prime Minister’s Gala concert in Kingston in 2000.  His other noted releases include “Intimate Relationship” “Show Your Love” “Conversation” and “Time Together.”

The One Love Concert, at the Rose Hall Aqueduct, on Friday, February 5, features international acts Akon, Nico & Vinz, Kymani Marley, Morgan Heritage, Tessanne Chin, Skip Marley, Nadine Sutherland, Jesse Royal, NoMaddz, Tanto Metro & Devonte, Iba Mahr, Kranium, CK, Devin Di Dakta, Ikaya, D’Burnz, Sabrina the Diva, Teflon, and Ruff Kut band; with hosts Iceman and ZJ Sparks.

“We are excited to host a reggae icon like Marcia Griffiths at our historic Rose Hall Great House – a perfect setting for one who shared the stage with Bob Marley himself to bring the One Love message in song,” says Michael Rollins of Rose Hall Jamaica, Executive Producer of the event.

The 2-day festival will benefit a number of ongoing charitable projects through the Bob Marley Foundation in partnership with the Rose Hall Developments and Sandals Foundation.  SOS Children’s Village is among other Rose Hall supported charities expected to benefit from the proceeds.

SOS Children’s Village, Barrett Town, was inaugurated in February, 1972, by American country-singer Johnny Cash, who was a big supporter of SOS Children’s Villages.  Today, several SOS families at the village provide a loving home for children from the region who have lost parental care.  In each family, they live with their brothers and sisters and are affectionately cared for by their SOS mother.  There is also an SOS Kindergarten for up to 90 children.  This way, children who grow up in an SOS family are integrated into the local community from a young age.  Older children attend the local school and are given educational support to those who are struggling academically.  When SOS young people are ready to pursue further education or vocational training, the SOS Youth Program makes shared accommodation available to them.  The SOS Children’s Village provides a safe environment and, with the support of qualified counselors, the young people can plan their future, increasingly take on responsibility, and prepare for independent adult life.

Creative Director of the One Love Music Festival and CEO of Tuff Gong International, Cedella Marley says the festival “is a way to continue to spread Dad’s message and help empower people to achieve great things.”  The presence of two of Jamaica’s most celebrated and consistently satisfying musical acts on the same stage no doubts gives an extra polish to an already star-studded One Love Music Festival lineup.
