THE DENNIS BROWN BIRTHDAY TRIBUTE IN KINGSTON,IS RESCHEDULED DUE TO THE GENERAL ELECTION!

DENNIS Brown’s Birthday Tribute Concert and the Trench Town Music Festival have been rescheduled due to the February 25 General Election.

Junior Lincoln — vice-chairman of Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA), event organizers — said police advised the two events should be rescheduled.

“The Dennis Brown concert which was originally set for this Sunday, February 21 has now been pushed back to March 6 on the Kingston Waterfront, while the Trench Town Music Festival which was set for February 27, will be held on March 12,” Lincoln told the Jamaica Observer.

JaRIA’s vice-chairman said the shift in dates will undoubtedly affect the roster of acts available.

“As you know, artiste fly in and out all the time. So some people will not be available when the shows come around while others will become available due to the shift in dates. So, that is what we are working on at this time — seeing who is available on March 6 and 12. But, as usual, we are looking to provide quality entertainment with some big names,” he said. The Dennis Brown concert celebrates the birthday of the ‘Crown Prince of Reggae’, who would have celebrated his 59th birthday on February 1. Brown died in 1999.

The Trench Town Festival celebrates this inner-city community as a cultural cradle which has spawned many of Jamaica’s top musicians.

The imminent election also affected the weekly free, public concert — Reggae Wednesdays — held in Mandela Park, Half-Way-Tree. JaRIA had to cut it down to two instead of four.
