IT’S OFFICIAL – THE JAMAICA LABOR PARTY HAS WON THE 2016 GENERAL ELECTIONS!

JLP wins St Thomas Western, 2016 elections

 James Robertson—

The Jamaica Labor Party’s (JLP) victory in last Thursday’s general election was confirmed last night, after the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) declared the Western St Thomas seat for the party’s candidate, James Robertson.

Although the votes counted for the two candidates – Robertson for the JLP and Marsha Francis for the People’s National Party (PNP)- were not immediately available, it was confirmed that Robertson won by 457 votes, which was 76 votes more than the 381 lead he recorded in the preliminary count.

Robertson’s victory was necessary to lift the JLP to the 32-seat threshold, which ensured that its lead in the seat count in the election was unassailable. The party says it hopes to end up with the original 33-30 seat count, which was confirmed by the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) on Thursday night,, after the magisterial recount of the South East St. Mary magisterial recount which is expected to start tomorrow.
