Nooks struck big in 2000 with God Is Standing By, a cover of Al Green’s I’ll Be Standing By. It sparked a comeback for the artist who made a name in the 1970’s with songs like Tribal War and Forty Leg Dread. The latter was done as deejay Prince Mohammed. While he did an album of Dennis Brown covers in 2006, Nooks said his priority is making inspirational music.

“Right now it’s [singing gospel] is uppermost on my agenda. I’ll continue to sing about love, love of people, love of women. That’s what the fans know me for and I will never leave that out.”
