THE THIRD annual edition of the “Redemption the Concert” series is set for Saturday, May 28 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium Training Grounds venue.

Fresh from earning and claiming their first-ever Grammy Award for “Reggae Album of the Year”, the royal family of reggae known as Morgan Heritage will join: the veteran reggae ambassador, Calvin “Cocoa Tea” Scott; the ladies’ favorite Reggae crooner, Kevin “Sanchez” Jackson and one of the most commercially successful and consistent entertainers, Miguel “Sizzla” Collins for an epic night of reggae music.

“After hosting great reggae acts such as Beres Hammond, Anthony B, Gyptian and Jah Cure in previous years we really wanted to bring an act that Trinidad has not seen in quite some time and also a combination of acts that would be very exciting and entertaining for the reggae fans here,” said a spokesperson for Tropix Entertainment, producers of the concert.

Formed in 1994 by five children of reggae artist, Denroy Morgan, Morgan Heritage includes Peter “Peetah” Morgan, Una Morgan, Roy “Gramps” Morgan, Nakhamyah “Lukes” Morgan and Memmalatel “Mr Mojo” Morgan and has impacted greatly on the industry with the release of over 15 successful reggae albums. Strictly Roots album of 2015 finally earned them a Grammy Award, but their impressive catalog has long found favor with reggae fans around the globe.

In an exclusive telephone interview with irishandchin.com, “Gramps” Morgan described the feeling associated with the triumphant win — just minutes after receiving the award in Los Angeles, California “It’s a joy to be in the middle of so much success — some of the best composers, musicians, producers and songwriters and to represent our music, our culture and our country is just amazing! Gramps said. “Reggae music tun up, Jamaica tun up, know who we are and understand (that) reggae music is taking the world by storm!” Asked about his thoughts during the exact moment of receiving the prestigious award, Morgan added: “When you hold it man you remember everything!

Growing up in the Twelve Tribes of Israel and doing celebrations; driving from Springfield, Massachusetts to Brooklyn every weekend to record; going to Jamaica (and) working with Bobby Digital and King Jammys — you remember the journey! Going to the next generation and working with people like Don Corleone and Shane Brown from Jukebox – it’s just ah ting where… you just start to reflect and give thanks to the Most High!” During the interview, Morgan also took the time to salute the other nominees and thanked those who supported his family and especially those who purchased their latest album, Strictly Roots.
